Russian embargo - Les Cuisines Bruxelloises orders twenty tons of Belgian apples and pearsTuesday, 09 September 2014 02:26
Over the next two months, apples and pears will be favored in the menus developed for Les Cuisines Bruxelloises consumers. Twice a week, school children, hospital patients, residents of nursing homes and administrative staff will be offered snacks from Belgian orchards instead of dessert.
Launched in 2005, from food activities within the City of Brussels, its CPAS and the IRIS "North" hospital network (CHU Brugmann, CHU Saint-Pierre), the mission of Les Cuisines Bruxelloises is the development and promotion of healthy eating, and the ongoing search for the best quality and nutrional balance for children, adolescents and adults.
More than 10,000 meals are produced per day and delivered daily to more than 100 locations from three main kitchens. They employ more than 250 people, including twenty dieticians.
UCM (Union of Small Businesses) has also reported that it completed the purchase of 740 pounds of potatoes and 450 pounds of Belgica Conference pears to make them available to their staff and customers. The UCM is urging SMEs throughout the country to follow suit.
